A Book I’m Recommending to Dads – The Intentional Father

If you’re a dad, I highly recommend you consider reading Jon Tyson’s latest book – The Intentional Father. Jon is a sharp, reasoned thinker, pastor and author. Check out the book description below.

From Amazon:

Self-initiation is killing our young men. Without strong mentors, boys are walking alone into a wilderness of conflicting messages about who they should be as men. It’s no wonder that our sons are confused about what the world expects from them and what they should expect of themselves.

The Intentional Father is the antidote. This concise book is filled with practical steps to help men raise sons of consequence–young men who know what they believe, know who they are, and will stand up against the negative cultural trends of our day. Jon Tyson lays out a clear path for fathers and sons that includes specific activities, rites of passage, and significant “marking moments” that can be customized to fit any family.

It’s not enough to hope our sons will become good men. We need them to be good at being men. This book shows how fathers, grandfathers, and other male mentors can lead the way.

A Doughnut Spot Worth a Visit – Parlor Doughnuts

These doughnuts are AH-MAZ-ING! Laura and I tried these on an recent trip to Nashville. (Thanks for the recommendation Cory and Rachel!) I tried the Carmel Bliss and the Maple Bacon. Laura tried Blueberry Hill and one other that I can’t remember the name. All really good! Check out the webisite for locations across the country.

A Podcast I Stumbled Across – Bad Cops

I remember hearing about a case in Baltimore about a few bad cops. I stumbled across this podcast from the BBC that tells more of the story. It was very interesting to listen. It made me even more grateful for the good guys I know out there.

A Quote from I’m Thinking About

Raising a son is real work, but we have to get this right, because if we don’t teach our sons, the world will. If we don’t teach our sons about women pornography will if we don’t teach our sons about friendship, they’ll live a life of loneliness. If we don’t teach our sons about leadership, they’ll be followers all their lives. Being a father is not about efficiency. It’s about discipleship. Father is not about time management. It’s about heart development.” — Jon Tyson on the Dad Awesome Podcast

An Interesting Read – Killing the Mob

Bill O’Reilly has a whole series of books that start with the word “killing”. I wasn’t a great history student in school. I enjoy O’Reilly’s books as they help me dig into a bit of history while the book reads like a novel.

From Amazon:

Killing the Mob is the tenth book in Bill O’Reilly’s #1 New York Times bestselling series of popular narrative histories, with sales of nearly 18 million copies worldwide, and over 320 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list.

O’Reilly and co-author Martin Dugard trace the brutal history of 20th Century organized crime in the United States, and expertly plumb the history of this nation’s most notorious serial robbers, conmen, murderers, and especially, mob family bosses. Covering the period from the 1930s to the 1980s, O’Reilly and Dugard trace the prohibition-busting bank robbers of the Depression Era, such as John Dillinger, Bonnie & Clyde, Pretty Boy Floyd and Baby-Face Nelson. In addition, the authors highlight the creation of the Mafia Commission, the power struggles within the “Five Families,” the growth of the FBI under J. Edgar Hoover, the mob battles to control Cuba, Las Vegas and Hollywood, as well as the personal war between the U.S. Attorney General Bobby Kennedy and legendary Teamsters boss Jimmy Hoffa.

O’Reilly and Dugard turn these legendary criminals and their true-life escapades into a read that rivals the most riveting crime novel. With Killing the Mob, their hit series is primed for its greatest success yet.

A Fantastic Sermon from Jon Tyson – To Strengthen The Failing Heart

This past year has been incredibly difficult for so many people for so many reasons. Jon Tyson’s recent message is a word of encouragement for all of us.

A Traveling Hack – Luggage bungees

This luggage strap/bungee is fantastic. It allows you to secure any small bag to the top of your rolling bag. This is really handy for totes and other small bags that don’t have a built-in way to do this.

A Quote from I’m Thinking About

If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.” — C.S. Lewis

Let’s change the world together!

Let's start the conversation.
